To procrastinate, simply put, is to be a slacker and to put off doing something until absolutely necessary, or even later than that. Therefore procrastination is commonly manifested as not getting things done on time. Obviously to not get things done can be highly catastrophic, since it is like adding weight to an already burdened mule. The more weight that is added to the mule, the more that will come crashing down when too much is added, and that is the true disaster of procrastination, having so much to do, but so little time, that it seems impossible to get all the work done (as it very well may be). Procrastination could be anything from not writing the final paper for an English class, or not stockpiling any food for a disastrous storm; the consequences for not doing the important action is that you must accomplish more in less time, time you may or may not have. In any situation, procrastination is like playing a game where the reward is failure, because if you do put work off, then you risk quality even if you do get it done on time. Even procrastinating from taking a break happens to the folks who overwork themselves, and sometimes when that person breaks down, the entire operation is at risk. Many people would say that procrastination is not a problem, and for them it probably is not, since they do not waste themselves or their time; however, procrastination will always affect them for as long as the rest of the world is procrastinating. The people who do not have jobs and live off of the government is a fine example, after all, the government’s money comes from the people who procrastinate little enough to make money. So those who say it is not an issue have simply not yet addressed it yet, and need to stop their procrastination before it is too late and even they lose their self worth. What kind of a world is it where no one ever accomplishes anything productive? What happens when something devastating happens that could have ad should have been prevented? If procrastination cannot stop soon, humans as a race will lose their past, present and future and cease to exist productively. Such a large goal of stopping procrastination is definitely a challenging process since it is such a widespread issue. If individuals can manage to understand how they fit into a scale of how much they actually accomplish as compared to everyone else, then perhaps we can work out a way to move forward. The solution may be closer than we know if we could just stop procrastinating and come up with an answer to make every human understand their self worth.
A solution for procrastination is difficult to conceive, but not impossible, just extreme. “The essence of procrastination lies in not doing what you think you should be doing” (Surowiecki). A communist government is extreme, but at least there is an overall goal that can get the attention that it requires. Since almost no one wants some large amount of negative progress to happen in society, we can all agree that it would be best to strive to make society better as a whole. That being the case, to stop procrastination there must be a truly harsh reward for those who procrastinate, and an equally great reward for those who do not procrastinate. That way, the poison of procrastination can show through to anyone who cares and hopefully to those who don’t care. "Telling someone who procrastinates to buy a weekly planner is like telling someone with chronic depression to just cheer up." (Marano). Marano makes the point that sometimes personal management is not nearly enough, but also that something else is needed. Of course communism is an answer to procrastination in the sense that progress will be made because of government controlled labor, but unfortunately communist reform never tends to work since everything is so strict and all the benefits from work are divided so that those who do work hard still can be abused by the people who are in positions of power that allow them to just take money. Also in a communist society one would never be free to chase their interests, thus decreasing the populations’ motivation. Since communism doesn’t work so well, Americans use a three tiered governing system consisting of The House of Representatives, The Congress, and the Legislature. However, this is one of the worst traps, with three different parts of the government whose very purpose is to nullify out the others. It is a wonder anything ever gets done in such an organization like the American Government system. Clearly there is a better solution that would do away with things like forcing people to do what they do not want to do. The most obvious solution is to find a way to make people more motivated or to help them find their own motivation. To do this, the human race must be able to look at itself better in order to see how to fix itself. Thus, if we organize the land of the world into different districts while assigning different people to these different districts based on their income brackets and how much they accomplish as a whole, people would either sink, or swim. If they start to slack enough to the point where they make less of a difference, they will be moved down, and vice versa. This way, a promise of retirement will come to those who work hard and contribute past what is expected, and those who do not contribute can self reflect, and if they do not like what they see, then they understand that they need to work harder. Some would say that this is already how it is, and they would be correct partially; however, without being constantly forced to look at whom else one is on par with, they will be able to find out where they want to be and how much they would prefer to work. The biggest issue would be to create an honorable government to manage all that is going on without being greedy or selfish. A government to fit this needs to be able to create jobs that will actually benefit the full of society that are available to anyone who wants to try that job, and since all the areas are split up, you will be working with people that are approximately the same and how much they get done. Of course if one wishes to create a job themselves, they would need to approve it usefulness. Those who still procrastinate will probably complain about how things are going for them, but they have to save themselves, and then they will realize that the only thing pushing them down is themselves. People would also not be happy to be separated from friends or family, but if those people truly love you, or you truly love them, then hard work will happen so that you may see each other again, and of course one may always choose to stay behind and encourage the lazier. This solution leads to multiple workforces that understands if they are ahead or behind, and eventually to a balance of work and play. The real trick is getting it to work.
The world would need to get rid of national prejudice and national pride or else doing the vital re-organization would be impossible. So first instead of proclaiming oneself to a nation, people need to proclaim themselves to the Earth, oneself, and all of mankind. It is well understood that America has progressed fast and impressively due to its melting pot of resources in the form of people. While not every country has accomplished as much as America has, every country does have its own worth in one form or another. Instead of focusing on what we have done as a nation, and what other nations haven’t, we should be focusing on what we could all do if we worked together. Since the very core of procrastination is not doing what you know you should be doing, many people will not like solutions that actually work, and put off the issue due to the difficulty. However, the solution is not that scary when one realizes that if they do not fix existing procrastination, they are only making matters worse by taking no action and further procrastinating. Therefore, the solution must be pulled off with delicacy and finesse. First a small team of America’s most talented hackers need to be briefed in what the mission is. It is extremely simplistic to find confident and able hackers online by visiting 4chan.org and asking who wants to help overthrow the government and herald in a new age of amazing technologies and newfound internet capabilities. The internet group “Anonymous” is a group known for its extreme opposition to authority, and its use of internet resources to keep such authority at bay. Of course the group “Anonymous” would be into this kind of thing, so it does not take very much convincing to get the hackers on the right side. Next, the hackers have to tap into the all of the missile defense systems over the entire world and take total control of them. Total control of the missile systems is vital since someone else with missiles could just as easily shut down the hackers. Next it must be made clear that the control lies with the hackers, and that the leader is in control of the hackers. At this point it must be made known through the media that the world is weak and unable to fight back against the might of thousands of nukes and a handful of hackers. This is again easily achieved with the support of the Anon Hackers and their zealous need to always get in the way of authority, the Anon have even changed giant billboards before. In many aspects, the Anon Hackers would be the ultimate authority due to their capability of reaping fantastic amounts of knowledge from the internet, knowledge that comes from every corner of the globe that has internet. Fortunately all of this internet knowledge exploration keeps them busy and fully away from actually wanting to conquer anything else. At this point in time the Anon must be kept around to thwart those who seek too much power. Since the Anon may indeed seek power for themselves, Anon will become a secret society that identifies potential threats, opportunities, strengths, and weaknesses of the society with their wide knowledge. Also another society that knows of the Anon will need to come into existence in order to govern the way things flourish between the Anon and the normal citizens. As if to say that there needs to be a group that functions as a “structure” that dictates who goes where when their value as an asset increases. This is an essential action to operate the system and show people that the more they can do, the more they can have. In order to keep the respect of the people, the government officials, in order to attain their position, must remain in the district with the average asset value. Because of this, the “structure” may come into understanding that if they take more and give it to themselves, that that is them doing more to achieve more, even though they do not deserve it. Of course, the Anon and their ability to hack into banking systems (and other such delicate things) is there to take care of such an operation should it arise. The Anon must be situated all over. Anyone from any district can become an Anon moderator, but they must be chosen by Anon itself. Since Anon is secret, they will find you before you find them, and they will know if you are worthy or not. The whole part that allows this to work is that Anon is a secret to the public. Anon can keep the balance between citizen and government since they understand how people respond to their actions. Anonymous has already been around for a while, they are just public and no one ever knows the true intention of their design, yet they still fight those who they know are unjust, or just messed up, so all we have to do is harness this power and re-organize the world since we already have a reliable governmental system and a way to keep that system under control.
An ending is just as abrupt as a beginning, but if one never began, then it will not be able to end. As if to say: how do we know we cannot achieve until we try? To stop procrastination is to give birth to an entire world of whole new possibilities. A mass re-organization of our thoughts and actions as a race is the only way that this can work, because at the very base of everything, we need to get things done, and we can only do this if the world can respond properly to the amount of work we all do as individuals, and a whole. Holding the world hostage is pretty extreme most would agree, but this extreme problem calls for an even more extreme solution, a solution that will only be enacted by daring and persistence. In the smaller scheme of things, this is just a way to make citizens realize that nothing is truly free, and to not work is to not eat. If humans cannot get together as a whole and make a productive step into the future, then our past is worthless, our present is meaningless, and our future no longer exists.
