Nerds- Jessica Lucy

A nerd is a person who is enthusiastic about life, its many subparts and does not necessarily wear glasses, have braces, or a general lack of hygiene.

  1. Does not wear glasses is an arguable point because most people think of nerds as people wearing glasses.

  2. Some people may argue that the definition of a nerd is someone who enjoys computers and gaming, so this could easily be arguable. The common characteristics that you claim aren't what make a nerd can be argued since we all know them as a common stereotype.

  3. Nerds also are stereotyped as very studious and excel in academics. Its good that you are trying to create a different definition for a nerd, but the audience will argue due to the common stereotypes.

  4. Does your definition exclude intelligence or anything academically related? Are your qualifiers the physical stereotypes of a nerd? I think it will be difficult to have an analysis paragraph over each of those. I would suggest adding other qualifiers.

  5. This is very arguable because of the stereotype of a nerd and by saying that a nerd is not what the stereotype of a nerd is (the glasses, braces, and lack of hygiene) you make this very clear.

  6. What about the "I love Nerds" shirt? They have a small little face with braces and really big squared glasses on the shirt. Do people actually buy them because they like nerds? The majority of the people who wear them aren't even nerds right? Are nerds cool?

  7. I would define your "subparts". Does intelligence or anything that is related to the stereotype excluded in your definition?

  8. Some may argue that a primary component of being a nerd is wearing glasses and that you can not be one without the glasses, so this is good and arguable.

  9. I would say take off that part about the sub-parts and add some that falls under your onw definition, other then that your thesis is a great base for your argument and will raise counter-arguments.

  10. Overall, your definition works, but I don't understand what you mean by subparts. Also, someone might argue that about what "nerd behavior" is which is the typical defition. Someone might also bring "geek" into the picture.

  11. This is arguable because I wear glasses and someone automatically call me a nerd because I wear glasses. Good definition!

  12. I think this is a vey arguable definition because you say that nerds don't necessarily wear glasses and have braces which is typically what the word nerd describes. Also, you don't mention anything about intelligence as a qualifier.

  13. This is a super arguable definition and shows that you have a strong opinion about the subject. I would just replace the word subparts but thats pretty much it!

  14. This is very arguable. There are so many types of nerds so it is hard to put a true definition on what makes a person a nerd
